1809 MUTINY BY VELU THMBI AND NAIR BRIGADE


MUTINY ,LED BY ,VELU THAMBI DALWA ,IN 1809 ,WITH THE HELP OF NAIR SOLDIERS, WERE DEFEATED BY BRITISH UNDER COL: LEGER ,BRITISH DECIDED TO DISBAND THE NAIR SOLDIERS TO PREVENT FURTHER INSURRECTIONS .

EXCEPT A FEW THOUSAND NAIR SOLDIERS UNDER THE DIRECT COMMAND OF BRITISH OFFICERS ALL SOLDIERS WERE DISMISSED.

THESE SOLDIERS WERE KEPT AT PALAYAM=SOLDIER'S CANTONMENT IN MALAYALAM LANGUAGE,TRIVANDRUM

,THE ORIGINAL PALAYAM BARRACKS ,OF WHICH JUST 1 OR 2 STILL SURVIVES, AT PALAYAM ,TRIVANDRUM, TODAY, CAN BE SEEN ,NEAR, NEW LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY HALL ,AT PALAYAM
